LEWISTON - Meda Chatterton Sharp, 85, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, in Lewiston, Utah.
She was born to Wallace and Almeda Bell Atkinson Chatterton on Feb. 18, 1925, in Franklin, Idaho, the youngest of six children. She shared many times the fond memories she had of her two brothers and three sisters. She attended school in Franklin, Idaho, and completed all 12 years of school in the same building. For a short time after graduation she attended business college in Salt Lake City. She came home from college one weekend and met the love of her life, Willis G. Sharp. They married for all eternity on Sept. 6, 1944, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
One week after they were married, Willis received his papers to serve in the Army. He spent the first year of their marriage serving in World War II. Their first son, Roddy, was born while he was in the Philippine Islands. When Willis returned from the war they began their first farm in Lewiston, Utah, with two cows. In 1948 they moved to a bigger farm one block south of their first location. For the next 54 years, they lived there and worked very hard together to produce a beautiful farm and raise a family of eight children. Willis and Meda had a wonderful marriage for 58 years. Willis passed away Feb. 22, 2003, leaving Mom with a lonely spot in her life and heart.
Mom was very talented and spent countless hours embroidering beautiful tablecloths and dishtowels for her children and grandchildren. She also had a talent for writing; an autobiographical story of her and Willis' life was published in the Ladies Home Journal under the title "How America Lives" in 1958. She had a great love of reading and passed that along to her posterity. We all have fond memories of time spent with Grandma at the camp in Idaho, on the farm and in her home. She always had good food for us to eat. She has compiled many books of family history and memories that will carry on her legacy and bless the lives of her family for generations to come. She enjoyed visiting with her sisters, friends and neighbors.
We wish to thank all the wonderful neighbors and friends in Lewiston for their kindness and watchful care over her. We also want to extend a special thanks to Gay and Jerry Jorgensen and the excellent staff at the Family Place in Lewiston.
She is survived by her children, Roddy (Marylinn) of Lake Point, Utah, Melanie (Tony) Christensen of Logan, Utah, Scott of Lake Point, Utah, Sonja of Draper, Utah, Blake (Reina) of Richmond, Utah, and Brett (Jean) of Roanoake, Va.; 34 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eva Whitehead of Franklin, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willis; her daughter, April; and son, Randy. We love you, Mom/Grandma, and appreciate all that you sacrificed for all of us. We will miss you!
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, July 21, at noon in the Lewiston 4th Ward chapel, 16 S. Main St., Lewiston, with Bishop Don Baldwin conducting. Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the Lewiston Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home of Preston, Idaho. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
