"Arrived in Houston, Texas in 1842. Judge Matthew A. Dooley was born in Pennsylvania in 1813, was an agent for the German Immigration Society at New Braunfels and was elected first Chief Justice of Comal County in 1846. He was a member of the second Texas legislature in 1847 and in 1853-1854 and was one of the founders of the Democratic party in Texas. He was appointed a delegate to the Democratic Convention held in Baltimore in 1851. Dooley accepted a considerable amount of land in the Fisher-Miller Survey in Lieu of drafts he held against the Immigration Society and later came to claim the land in the northeast part of Llano."
