Charles "Chuck" Ivey

Former Lane County Commissioner Charles S. "Chuck" Ivey of Eugene died July 22 of an aortic aneurysm at age 89.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1920, in Sallisaw, Okla., to Horace Ivey and Vera Shull.

He married Shirley Virginia Fee on July 12, 1941, in Glendale, Calif. They divorced in 1970. He married Bel Williams on July 29, 1972, in Los Angeles. She died on Nov. 23, 2009.

He served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and later graduated from USC with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1956. He worked at Douglas Aircraft and Mattel Corp. in Los Angeles before moving to Oregon in 1972.

He served as city council member and police commissioner for Junction City from 1975 to 1980, and was mayor of Junction City from 1981 to 1983. He served as a board member of Lane Council of Governments from 1975 to 1985. He was West Lane County Commissioner from 1982 to 1986, and a Board of Education member at Lane Community College from 1988 to 1993.

Survivors include three sons: the Rev. Frank Ivey of Daly City, Calif., Joe Ivey of San Francisco and Bob Ivey of Eugene; six daughters, Sue Chambers of Santa Clarita, Calif., Tyna Ivey, Michelle Coleman, Rita Seligson and Lorraine Wong, all of Eugene, and Nila Ellison of Springfield; and nine grandchildren.

No service is planned per his request. Arrangements by Aurora Cremation & Burial Services in Eugene.

Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Remembrances to Lane County Animal Services or Greenhill Humane Society.
