Joshua served as a Private, Company A, 1st Delaware Infantry during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 1st Delaware on September 13, 1861 for a term of 3 years. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being 22 years old, employed as a Spring Maker and residing in Wilmington, Delaware.

Joshua was wounded in knee at the battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg on September 17th 1862.

He was taken to the regimental hospital, where he would have his leg amputated at the thigh.

Joshua "Died Of Those Wounds" at the regimental hospital during the war.
