Mary Louisa Dunlap was born February 22, 1844 to William and Pamelia Bryan Dunlap in Fayette County, Kentucky. The family shows up in the 1850 census in District 2, Fayette, Kentucky. Her father and oldest brother are listed as farmers. By 1860 the family had relocated to District 18, Callaway, Missouri.

Mary Louisa Dunlap married William Briscoe of Cass County, Missouri on December 12, 1868 in Cass County.

At the time of the 1870 census, Mary and William lived in Polk, Cass County. He is listed as "working out." Mary is listed as keeping house. Daughter Harriet was born in Cass County, Missouri in 1870 (presumably after the August 11 census since she doesn't appear in the record). Son James Gibson was born in Pleasant Hill February 10, 1872.

By 1874, William and Mary had moved to Nevada. The following children were born to them while living in Nevada: Docia, 1874; Nell, July 6, 1875; William, 1878; and Mary (also known as May and Maym), July 1879. (Maym was born in Tuscarora, Elko, Nevada according to her son John Burkhart's Washington wedding record, dated 3 Oct 1930.)

William's obituary says they moved to Oregon in 1879. The family moved to Jackson County where William's brother John lived as well. At the time of the 1880 census the couple lived in Manzanita, Jackson, Oregon. William is listed as a farmer; Mary as keeping house.

William and Mary next show up in the 1900 Federal census living in Nehalem City, Tillamook, Oregon where William worked as a day laborer. Children Docia, William and Harriet were no longer living as Mary's record states she had 8 children, 5 still living. Daughters Rosa Pearl, March 16, 1884, and Gertrude, June 5, 1889, lived with the couple at that time.

Mary Louisa Dunlap Briscoe died December 5, 1907 in Dayton, Columbia, Washington and is buried there. Her grave is unmarked. Husband William is listed as informant on her death certificate. At that time, daughter Maym lived in Columbia County with her husband Charles L Burkhart and their three children, Charlene, John, and Beryl. It is not known if Mary and William lived in Dayton at the time, or were visiting.

Mary's granddaughter Charlene Burkhart. is buried in the Dayton City Cemetery as well.
