He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Joe Thielen, of Portland, Ore., Paulette and Dr. Raymond Mock, of Port Allen, and Pam and Dennis McCrary, of Nawvoo, Ala.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Pauline Melson; infant son, Paul Newton Melson; and parents, Newton and Eddie Mae Melson.
He was a master Mason and a member of Arley Lodge No. 867. His favorite saying was, "Have you got time for this?"
