OBITUARY.
Eliza M. Clifton, nee, Randel was born in Indiana in 1842 and departed this life November 13, 1908, aged sixty-six years. September 18, 1862, she was united in marriage to Wm. C. Starbuck and soon after, moved to Knox county, Mo., where they settled on a farm three miles west of Greensburg. To this union eight children were born, six living and two dead. Those living are James M. Starbuck and Mrs. Jessie Koser [sic] of Adair county, Mrs. Ella Marquess and Perry Starbuck living South of Edina, Mrs. Aleotha Sparks of Lebonon [sic], Indiana and I. T. Starbuck of Washington. The deceased and her first husband were charter members of Pleasant Ridge Christian (not Disciple) church, which was organized in 1866.
Her first husband died in 1882 and August 11, 1889, she was married to David Clifton of Greensburg who died some five years ago, since which time she has made her home with her children and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ella Marquess, living south of Edina. For forty-two years, Mrs. Clifton was a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge church, always ready to speak a word for her master.
If there was anyone sick in the neighborhood Mrs. Clifton was always there to do her part. She had long been troubled with bronchitis and knew for some time that he time to depart was near at hand and was ready and willing to go. Sunday November 15, her remains were brought to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery and laid to rest. Pastor E. H. Willey preached the funeral at 2 o'clock Sunday evening.
Her children wish to express their thanks to the friends who so kindly assisted them during the sickness and death of their mother.
May her life be an example unto us, and the Lord comfort those who mourn.
