Virginia was born at Camp Mistake, Doddridge County, WV. Her father, Earl, was a teacher at a one-room schoolhouse at Piggin Run in Doddridge County. This is where he probably met Virginia's mother Opal Knight. Opal's parents lived at Piggin Run during this time.

Earl was united in marriage to Opal Ella Knight on March 27, 1920 in Doddridge County. The bride was 17 at the time, the groom was 24.

They had one child together, Virginia Luceille. Tragically, Virginia's mother died due to complications of her 2nd pregnancy two years later, at the age of 19.

Virginia and her father went to live with Marion and Nancy Isabelle Davis, Virginia's grandparents. Earl married again in 1925 and he and his second wife, Olive, moved into a home right across the yard. Earl and Olive had two children together. Since Olive was still very young herself, she didn't think she could take on the care of Virginia as well, so Virginia continued to live with her grandparents.

Virginia married Eugene Davis (no relation) from Deep Valley, Tyler County, WV. They moved to Ravenna, Ohio.
