Charles died after falling down an elevator shaft while working construction of the Union Trust building. He was taken to his parents residence where he died from his injuries. In 1890 he had been accused of killing his secondwife, however charges were eventually dropped. (St. Louis-Post Dispatch, 31 Jul 1893). Charles had been previously married to Fannie LNU and a daughter Alice came from that short relationship.

Charles died from injuries suffered after he fell down an elevator shaft on July 27 during construction at the new Union Trust building at 7th and Olive Streets. He was recovering at his parents house, however died on July 30.Charles had previously been arrested for killing his second wife, Fannie Slattery in 1890, of which he was acquitted.
