George served as a Private, Company K, 1st Delaware Infantry during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 1st Delaware on October 1, 1861 in Wilmington, Delaware. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being 24 years old, 5' 8", light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, a farmer, and residing in Dover, Kent County, Delaware.

George was "Killed In Action" at the battle of Antietam during the war.
