With the exception of Stewart all were born in Hammond, St. Lawrence County, New York.
In 1844 the family moved to Wisconsin, They first settled in Port Washington and then the family built the first home built in Saukville, Wisconsin. In 1849 the family moved a mile or so and established a farm in the town of Grafton, Wisconsin. When the civil war broke out 5 of the 6 boys served in various Wisconsin Companies.
