Jay Bernstein was an American producer and manager to actresses like Farrah Fawcett and Suzanne Somers. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bernstein moved to California after graduating from Pomona College. He worked in the mail room of the William Morris Agency before working for Rogers & Cowan, the industry's largest PR company, founded by Henry Rogers and Warren Cowan. Bernstein founded his own agency in 1962 and later produced the television series Bring 'Em Back Alive, Mike Hammer, and Houston Knights. He also produced several television movies and the 1980 film Nothing Personal starring Suzanne Somers.
Bernstein was well known in the Hollywood community for being extroverted beyond the normal, overtly friendly his reputation was misinterpreted as "crass" by some, who did not understand how to perceive his abundant, and at times unsettling enthusiasm. Jay was a success for these very reasons, when by today's standards a personality such as Jay's might be put on medication for showing signs Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD)due to his endless energy and drive to be constantly thinking up something new. Privately Jay was a very kind and exceedingly generous man if he cared about you, and if he did not care for you, you would probably never know, as he kept those things private, and rarely spoke a bad word about anyone. There were exceptions of course, but mostly Jay was a man's man, and definitively a ladies man, with a reputation for chasing starlets that well deserved, earned even.
Bernstein died after suffering a stroke at age 68.
