Bert was the son of James W. (J.W.) Bennett, Jr. & Addie L. (Latham) Bennett. They had been married for 10 years when Bert was born. It is unknown if they had any other children due to the fact that family records are not available to this writer and census records do not exist during this time. The 1890 census of Missouri, which would have shown any other children, were destroyed in a fire at the Missouri State Capitol many years ago. Due to Bert's birth and death dates, he also escaped any census records.
But, tombstones tell a tragic story of this family. Bert was only one year old when both of his parents died in the same year of 1890. It is unknown to this writer how they died or who raised Bert after that. When Bert was only 9 years old, he also died of causes unknown to their writer, and is buried in the Myers Cemetery with his parents and paternal grandparents.
