George Alfred Caldwell Coffey was the son of James Coffey and Martha "Patsy" Tucker. He enlisted along with his brothers Moses and Francis in the Union Army during the Civil War at the age of 16. He was captured at Sabine Cross Roads and was a prisoner of war for several months at Camp Ford. After the war he married Elizabeth Frances Goode. They were the parents of five sons and five daughters. At the time of his death he was living with his son Reuel in Mt Carmel Illinois. He died in Vinceness Indiana while visting his daughter Izzy, but is buried next to his wife in Indianapolis Indiana.
