ELMER 'BUPP' SWEIGART, HOSIERY RETIREE
Elmer "Bupp" Sweigart, 82, of 447 N. State St., Ephrata, died early Monday morning at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness.
Sweigart retired in 1981 from Hope Hosiery, Adamstown. He previously had worked 39 years for the former Brookshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the USS Dolphin in the Philippines.
He was a member of Ephrata American Legion, Cloister Post 429.
Born in East Cocalico Township, he was the son of the late James and Mary Blimline Sweigart.
He was married to Beatrice Parmer Sweigart for 58 years on Nov. 9.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Phyllis J., wife of Carl "Pete" Ditzler of Ephrata; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie, wife of Raymond Carpenter of Ephrata.
