Funeral services were held Monday, November 19 at Hadley Lutheran Church, Hadley with Rev. Kerry Boese officiating.
Pallbearers were Bob Gaalswyk, Mike Kelly, Gil Breuer, Tom Burch, Randy Burch and Bryan Breuer.
Interment was in Highland Home Cemetery, Highland.
Gene Burch was born May 11, 1944 in Pipestone to Duane and Elsie Quirk Burch. He grew up and attended school in Pipestone. He then attended Willmar Junior College and SSU in Marshall. He moved to Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., then to Ft. Lee, Va. He entered the U.S. Army on March 29, 1962 and served until his honorable discharge on March 26, 1965. He returned to Pipestone to live until 1967 when he moved to Chicago.
He married Karen Clauson on Feb. 3, 1968 at the Hadley Lutheran Church. Following their marriage they lived in Chicago until 1971 when they moved to New London and in 1973 they lived in the Lake Wilson and Chandler area. In 1977 they made their home in Slayton where they have lived since.
Gene worked as a computer programmer for Finley Engineering Co. And CAD Consulting Services Inc. for many years. Due to failing health, Gene moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on Sept. 24, 2007.
He attended Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Burch, Slayton; two children, Beth Ann (Troy) Winter, Slayton and Chris (Melissa) Burch, Fulda; two grandsons; one sister, Barb (Gil) Breuer, Slayton and two brothers, Randy (Kathy) Burch, Remer and Duane Burch and his special friend, Ida, Kenora, Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Burch.
