Hazel Hall Ayers

Hazel Hall Ayers, 90, of Parkersburg, formerly of Arnoldsburg, passed away Feb. 22, 2009, at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Ayers was born at Arnoldsburg and was a daughter of the late Edwin and Matilda Adams Hall. She was a retired Postmaster, having served in that capacity in Arnoldsburg and Washington, W.Va. She was a member of the South Parkersburg United Methodist Church and enjoyed travel, reading, sewing, gospel music, bowling and was an avid WVU Mountaineer football fan.

Surviving are three sons, Michael (Tamou) Ayers of Fredericksburg, Va., Roger (Connie) Ayers and Richard Ayers of Parkersburg; one daughter, Mrs. Judith (Al) Stump of Parkersburg; a daughter-in-law, Georgia Ayers of Kanawha; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Vernon Ayers; one son, Francis Gaynell Ayers; one granddaughter, Cynthia Ayers; seven brothers, Cleo, P. Dewey, Eufa, Bruce, Woodrow, George and Hershel Hall; and seven sisters, Eliah Elliot, Lena Stump, Bethel Starcher, Eugene Hall, Odessa Hall, Vera Baranowski and Juanita Boswell.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. The Rev. Rick Brown, the Rev. Phil Prunty and the Rev. Carroll McCauley will officiate. Interment will be in the Nobe Cemetery, Nobe, W.Va. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, and from 11 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville.
