GOWANDA Robert E. Mitchell, 77, a retired welder for Red Wing Co. Inc., died Saturday, Feb. 06, 2010, at the VA Health Care Center in Buffalo. Robert lived in Gowanda, N.Y., for the last 15 years and was previously from Mill Street in South Dayton, N.Y.
He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in Bolivar, Pa., the son of William and Arla Minta (Echenrod) Mitchell. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was a member of Pine Valley VFW of Cherry Creek and SEIU in Fredonia where he served as a union steward.
He is survived by five daughters, Patricia Flagg of Jamestown, Shirley Mitchell of Pittsburgh, Pa., Linda (David Jr.) Everts of Springville, N.Y., Mary J. (Gary E. Jr.) Farley of Lawrence, Kan., and Holly (David Jr.) Taber of Dunkirk; five grandsons, Skyler Bo Farley, Robert Taber, Jason Taber, Dominick Taber and Zackary Taber; four granddaughters, Danielle Flagg, Kristan Martin, Mackenzie Miller and Breanna Taber; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Samuel Mitchell of Mt. Holley, N.C.; and a sister, Joann Saubern of Alexander City, Ala.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy O'Malley Mitchell, whom he married on Aug. 17, 1954, in Pittsburgh and who died on June 12, 1993; three brothers, Bergel Mitchell, Charles Mitchell and Kenneth Mitchell; and two sisters, Helen Mitchell and Lurana Stiles.
