DEATH OF NOBLE CITIZEN MONDAY

J. W. Davis (Uncle John, as his friends loved to call him) was born Feb. 12,1848, and died Nov. 3, 1919, age 71 years, eight months and twenty-one days. On Dec. 16, 1875, he was happily married to Miss Roam Yates. To this union was born seven children, and only one son, Charles, lives of that seven.

Uncle John professed a hope in Christ in young manhood and united with the M. E. Church at Oak Hill and lived faithful until death. The well fare of his pastor and the financial interest of the church were matters of deep concern to him. He was also an Odd Fellow in good standing. He was ready to go when the summons came. He had suffered about three year with heart disease and knowing that he might die suddenly he arranged his business, then told his friends he was ready to go when his Lord called him. A while before the end came his son asked him how he was feeling, and he replied, "I am feeling good."

Uncle John was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor, a kind friend to all. His aged companion, one son, four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mollie Hicks; two-brothers, R. H. and A. C. , besides many other relatives, are left to mourn the demise of this good man. Ripe in years, esteemed by his friends and neighbors and loved by a legion of people, he has laid down to rest.

Oh! what a happy meeting,
When life's sad journey's past,
Within our Father's keeping,
We find our own at last.

The body was interred Tuesday at Oak Hill, after services by his pastor, Bro. Robinson, and life-long friend, Rev. A. E. Scott.
