Being of a quiet unassuming disposition he lead a sober, industrious life the greater portion of which was spent near St. Ansgar. But in March 1901 he went to Wakonda, S.Dakota, where he engaged in farming for nearly ten years, returning to St. Ansgar in December, 1911.
This summer he was employed on the Halsten Groth farm and it was there that he met his untimely death caused by a stroke of lightning on Saturday afternoon, July 22, 1916.
