She was born in Lorain on December 14, 1921. A parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, Jo was formerly employed as a stockroom clerk for Al Januzzi's World of Shoes and later at the J.C. Penney Company. She was an avid fan of the opera and enjoyed reading with a specific interest in biographies. Additional hobbies included solving crossword puzzles and knitting items to be donated to Birthright.
She is survived by her sons Jon of Lorain and Paul (Dawn) of Camden Township, by daughters Maria Jeffrey (Gary) of Grosse Ile, Michigan, and Gina Scherer (Rick) of Springfield, Missouri, by six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother Anthony DeSilvester of Lorain, and sisters Ann Cirell of Lorain and Gina DeSilvester of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her husband Adam in 1962, by her parents George and Angelina (nee Verrochio) DeSilvester, by an infant brother Antonio, and by sisters Clara Peters and Mary Jane Berens.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon in the Catholic Church of St. Peter. The Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., Parochial Vicar of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
