He graduated from Ionia High School and went on to Michigan State University. He married Judy Hankins in August of 1967 and together they had 3 children. Tom was a lifelong farmer in Ionia and was active in 4H, FFA, Ionia Soil Conservation, and Pheasants Forever. Along with farming, Tom worked at Tower Automotive and most recently at Vera Sun in Woodbury until health issues caused him to retire in 2009.
Tom served in the Army in 1967 and 1968 and did a tour in Vietnam coming home in 1970.
Tom is survived by his children, Luke (Anna) Pitchford, Aric (Sandy) Pitchford, and Kristi (Kevin) Wadkins; grandson, Aric Pitchford; 3 step grandsons; special friend, Leora Listerman; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; sisters LouElla Magill and Marilyn Weller; brothers, Dexter and Robert Pitchford; nephews, Bobby Pitchford, Kim Pitchford and Paul Weller; brother-in-law, Bud Weller.
The Funeral Service was held Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Ionia with Rev. Kenneth Harger, presiding. Interment took place in Muir, MI. with Military Honors provided by the Ionia VFW Post.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Area Hospice or to the wishes of the family. Tom will be dearly missed by his family and many many friends.
