Samuel Culver Bonham was the son of Benjamin Bonham (1801-1836) and Susan Yinger (1805-1880).

Samuel Culver Bonham married Mary Ellen Leapley on 29 January 1857 in Shelby County Ohio.

They had three children:1) Alice Bonham (1857-1870); 2)William C. Bonham (1860-1931) m. 1st Margret A. Orr in 1880, m. 2nd Mary Evanette 'Nettie' Cook in 1895; 3) Eva Bonham (1866-1930), m. William P. Fleming in 1891.

During the Civil War Samuel Culver Bonham served in Company K, 134th Ohio Infantry. He was discharged on 28 August 1864.
