John served as a Private with the 3rd Delaware Infantry, Company B during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 3rd Delaware on October 21, 1861 in Gumboro, Delaware for a 3 year term.

John was wounded in the leg while working on the Railroad in Winchester, Virginia and "Died From That Wound" after his leg was amputated at the Port Hospital in Winchester, Virginia during the war.
