He enlisted in the 3rd Delaware on October 12, 1861 in Gumboro, Delaware for a 3 year term. He was noted as residing in Selbyville, Delaware.

During the war he was at one point "detailed" to Battery A which was became part of the First Battle of Rappahannock Station, Virginia.
