William Sylvanus Anson was born December 28, 1888 to Charles T. Anson and Henrietta A. Whitmore on his parents' ranch in the Venus Community seven miles north of Orchard, Nebraska, and departed this life on July 30, 1981 at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 2 days.

His and his sister's mother died when he was six from the flu. When he was seven, Ervie M. Strope became a mother to him and Octavia.

On February 23, 1910 he was united in marriage at Pilger, Nebraska with Gladys A. Carson, who departed this life after 61 years of marriage on October 13, 1971. To this union were born five children, all surviving: Henrietta (Mrs. Harold Blain), Ruth (Mrs. Homer Blain), Theron, Walter and Sarah (Mrs. Howard Clay. There are 27 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. He also leaves three sisters, Hilda Howard, Adeline Fitzgerald and Charlotte Hamill; and a brother, George. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Octavia Strope, and a young brother, Charley.

William was educated in the Venus and Oak Leaf rural schools. While many choices were open to William, as a young man he chose to be a rancher, stockman and farmer. He was unusually successful due to his industry and foresight. He was engaged in a partnership with his father in the operation of the C.T. Anson ranch seven miles north of Orchard from 1909 to 1919 when the family moved to the Pleasant Valley community east of Orchard. In 1931 they moved 1½ miles west of Orchard where they lived with or near their children until they moved to a small farm near Springview in 1960. They made their home there until 1971 at the death of his wife. Since that time he has made his home with his children.

Although his father was his fist Anson ancestor born in America, on his mother's side he descended from immigrants coming from England as early as 1630.

William was a devoted son, husband, parent and neighbor. From his childhood he was noted for his understanding and love for others, which was graciously returned in each community in which he lived. He was industrious, intelligent and gracious. In his younger years he held several offices of public trust.

William grew up in and and attended the Venus Methodist, Enterprise and Orchard United Brethren churches and was noted for his honorable life. In 1929 he led his family in giving his life completely to Jesus Christ and entered into a heart-satisfying relationship that continued until his death.
