Mrs. MacDonald, 82, long a resident of Brighton, will be buried Thursday in Arlington National Cemetery. She died yesterday at St. Patrick's Manor after a long illness.
In the 1940s, Mrs. MacDonald was commander of the Brighton American Legion Post No. 17. She was thought to be the first woman in the country to head a Legion post. She was also a former president of the auxiliary of the same post. Most recently she was a member of the American Legion Post No. 44, Roxbury.
During World War I, Mrs. MacDonald was a yeoman, serving in a Navy administrative post in Boston. She belonged to the Boston branch of the Yeoman.
She leaves two daughters, Frances Anderson of Denver and Jeanne Wissler of Medfield; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
