Mrs. Hannah Brothers, wife of the late Stephen Brothers of New Paris, was born in Stark county, Ohio, Sept. 22, 1827. She received the rudiments of an education under the tutorship of her uncle, Thomas Creighton of Ireland. She was married April 10, 1846 to Stephen Brothers in Stark county, Ohio, coming to Indiana in 1856 and settled on the farm on which the deceased had lived continuously until her death. She was a woman, whose life partaking of those qualities of sweetness and light, always found contributing and ministering to the sick and needy, evidenced her possession of strength of character.
Stephen Brothers, the husband, passed away March 29, 1892. Mrs. Brothers was a consistent member of the German Baptist church for a period of forty-one years. She was held in the highest esteem by not only her family, but by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. She leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, and four daughters, all of whom were with her during her declining days and last illness, except one son who is located in the west. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Dyke of Union City, Pa., and Mrs. Eliza Shaler of Saginaw, Mich.
