C. Russell Sawyer, 78, 2657 E. State Route 296, Urbana, died Monday, April 12, 1993, in Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born Nov. 11, 1914, in South Charleston, a son of Harley and Etta (Grupe) Sawyer.
He retired from Midland Ross Grimes Division following 39 years of service.
He was a member of Harmony Lodge 8, F. & A. M., Elizabeth M. Hood Chapter 505, O.E.S., White Shrine of Jerusalem Logan Chapter 48 and Jenkins Chapel Church.
Survivors include his wife, M. Wilhelmina (Ogg) Sawyer, whom he married Nov. 11, 1935; one daughter, Barbara J. Hill, Huber Heights; five grandchildren, Scott and Krissi Hill, Dayton, Craig Hill, Urbana, and Deriek and Daryl Sawyer; one great-granddaughter, Holly Sawyer; two sisters, June Hess, of Urbana and Betty Hood; five brothers, Raymond, George and Bob Sawyer, all of Urbana, Herman Sawyer, Indiana and Don Sawyer, Columbus; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William Sawyer; one daughter, Kathryn Sawyer; one brother; and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Durtsche officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 6:45 p.m.
