Wesley enlisted in the Navy on his 19th birthday. Boot Camp was in San Diego, and later he was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He served on the USS Detector an ocean going mine-sweeper.
After being discharged he worked for the Briggs Corporation and later became owner and manager of the downtown Briggs Hotel. Wesley managed the hotel for 30 years, recently retiring due to illness. During those years he met men and women who needed affordable rent. He was a mentor to many and tried to help the less fortunate.
He didn't have children of his own but he loved children, especially his nieces and nephews and also his dog, Sabrina.
Wesley enjoyed traveling and fishing in Mexico. He was an avid reader, a former member of the Knights of Columbus, the Moose Lodge and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Louellis W. Briggs. Wesley is survived by twin sisters, Arlene Ahlbrandt and Darlene Clifton; three nieces, Susan, Victoria, and Judy; and five nephews, Dan, Alan, Jim, Joe, and Mike.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. His life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at St Joseph's Catholic Church, 300 W. Mountain Ave. on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors with the All Veterans Honor Guard will follow at the family plot at Grandview Cemetery.
