St. George, UT - Heber Badger 91, a longtime resident of Seattle, Washington and St. George, Utah died last Sunday at the home of his daughter Rose Brown in Las Vegas, Nevada. Throughout his life of leadership, service and love of family, he touched the lives of many and inspired and strengthened all those who knew him. He was deeply loved by family and friends and will be sorely missed. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah one of twelve children of Carlos and Rosalia Badger, he married Mary Jean Smith of Logan, Utah shortly after he graduated from the Naval Academy in 1941. They were married 60 years until her death in 2002. They had six children and are survived by five of them; Stephen, Carlos, Rosalia Badger Brown, David and Sara Badger Conrad. They have 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Heber was a former naval aviator, WWII veteran receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross for air combat valor and the Navy's chief test pilot as Director of Flight Test at Patuxent River, Maryland. He retired from the Navy after 20 years with the rank of Captain. He then retired as Chief of Safety and Airworthiness after 23 years as an engineer at the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company. Throughout his life of service he held numerous callings in the LDS church including Stake President, Regional Representative, Philippines Baguio Mission President and Seattle Washington Temple President. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221
