Translated from the Kirchenbote #36, July 6, 1950
Gottfried Schimpf, son of Heinrich and Elisabeth Schimpf was born 4 Feb 1864 in Erlenbach, Russia. As a child he attended the village school and in his 15th year, after receiving religious training, he was confirmed by Pastor Lutzke. In 1888 he married Katharina Maier in Oberdorf and came with his family to America in 1912. He lived with his family for a short time in Saginaw, MI, then moved to Silverwood, MI where he was a farmer until 1924 when they moved back to Saginaw. This union was blessed with 10 children, of which one son and 4 daughters preceded their father in death. Those who mourn his death are his aged wife, 3 sons and 2 daughters, 33 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. The deceased Brother Schimpf was in communion with the Brethren during his lifetime. His departure came very unexpectedly. He always enjoyed good health and was always found in his place both in the church service and in prayer meeting. On 7 June after his noon meal, he got up and went outside. In front of the door he fell and was dead. Of him it can truthfully be said, what David and Jonathan said: I Sam. 20:18,
