Rev. Billy was the son of Peggy [Stevenson] and Walter McChesney, Jr, and the husband of Sarah [Nash] McChesney. They had seven children -- four daughters and three sons.

About 1843 "he moved his membership to Clear Spring church, in Crittenden county, where he was licensed to preach in 1847 and ordained by William Hall, J. W. Mansfield, Gabriel Sisk and J. E. Grace in 1852.
