**OBITUARY FOR MARGARET JANE WHAPLES AND MARY LOUISE WHAPLES**

Mrs. Margaret Jane Whaples.

Mrs. Margaret Jane Whaples, relict of the late Reuben Whaples, died Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the residence of her son, G. R. Whaples, 311 North Boulevard, at the age of 78 years.

On Jan. 1 last she suffered an attack of paralysis. From that time until her death she had been unable to utter a word, though her other faculties retained their usual acuteness. She was conscious up to within an hour of her death.

Mrs. Whaples was born in Scotia, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1822, and was married to Reuben Whaples, of Hartford, Conn., in 1888.

She had lived In Oak Park fifty-four years and was one of the original settlers of this region. She has been connected with the First Congregational Church since its organization and is related to all important events in the history of Oak Park.
Nine children were born to the union, eight of whom are living—George R., Judson L., Mrs. W. F. Furbeck, Mrs. Delos Hull, Mrs. J. W. Tope, Mrs. J. L. Kettlestrings, all of Oak Park; Mrs. Julia Spickerman, of Independence, Kan., and Mrs. T. M. Hull, of Wheatoa, Ill.

The pall-bearers were among the oldest citizens and personal friends of the deceased— O. W. Herrick, George Eckart, O. C. Blackmer. O. D. Allen, B. L. Dodge and E. W. Phelps.

Dr. W. E. Barton conducted the funeral services, which were held at the home of her son-in-law, W. F. Furbeck, 126 Home avenue, yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the interment taking place in the family lot at Forest Home.

——

Twenty-two hours following the death of Mrs. Whaples occurred the demise of Miss Mary Louise Whaples, daughter of George R. Whaples and granddaughter of Mrs. Margaret Jane Whaples, at the age of 19 years. Miss Whaples died of typhoid fever at the home of W. F. Furbeck, from whose home the funeral was held yesterday at the same hour as that of Mrs. Whaples, making a doubly sad event.

The service was conducted by Dr. Barton and interment was at Forest Home. The pall-bearers for Miss Whaples were six cousins—Orin, Joseph and Wilbur Kettlestrings, Roy Hull, Philip Furbeck and Will Spickerman.
