Samuel married Cynthia Brown (1787-aft 1860 Iowa ) in Weathersfield, CT, sister of Pliny Brown who married Asenath Walker. Cynthia outlived her husband but exact date of death is unknown. She lived with her son Gamaliel in Iowa after the death of her husband. Cynthia is the daughter of John Brown (1760-1790) and Savory Colton (1760-1790),

He removed to Genesco, NY in 1804 and in 1816 to Margaretta Township, Ohio.

Samuel was a farmer and served in the army in 1812-13 as an aide under General Wadsworth.
