He arrived in NM in 1901. During WWl he was a US Army captain. In 1929 he left medicine and became the first curator of the Laboratory of Anthropology. He wrote 3 books. He was the designer of the Zia New Mexican flag which his wife Reba sewed for him in 1925. He won $25 in the competition to replace the flag designed by Robert Emerson Twitchell designed in 1915. He died of heart failure.
