This is a lot more information on his family. I am his great-great-great-great-granddaughter. Carleton Dodge and Delilah Stevens Children: 3070. Boynton G. Dodge 8,b. 1829 in Henniker, NH, d. 1881(findagrave mem.# 55058418) His family moved to Exira, Audubon Co., Iowa in 1856 when he was 27 and Sophronia was 22. Congress granted large amounts of Iowa land to the railroad companies to aid development of railways across the state. The survey for the railroad was done by Grenville M. Dodge, another ancestor. Boynton m. Sophronia Jane Smith who was b. 3 Apr 1833 in Merrimack, NH and d. 19 Oct 1912, age 79, bur. in Exira Cemetery. Boynton walked all the way from New Hampshire to Iowa. He brought with him a supply of sewing materials, thread, needles, to barter in exchange for lodging and food. He thought that carrying money would invite robbery. He bought the claim of Hiram Perkins, Section 34, in Hamlin Township. Once established, he was a farmer and stockman, served on the Board of Supervisors in 1862-1863 where he entered an order dividing the county into 3 townships (adding a 4th in 1871), and was Superintendent of Schools 1868-1869. He was a Republican and a Deacon at the Congregationalist Church. His wife kept a good-sized fruit orchard on their property (Audobon Journal, July 1900). He d. of a heart attack on 27 Jun., 1881, age 52 and is bur. in Exira Cemetery.
