AGED MAN ENDS LIFE

FATHER OF QUINCYAN SHOOTS HIMSELF.

After Seventy-six Years of Life-Robert Keith Ends It All With Revolver—Rumors of Foul Play.

Edina, Mo, Sept 23—After an active life of seventy-four years, Robert Keith evidently decided he had lived long enough. Standing before a mirror in his home, he sent a 22-calibre bullet from a revolver crashing through his brain, and he died instantly, probably, though the time of the suicide is not known nor is it known how lone his body laid in the home before it was discovered. The bullet entered the middle of the unfortunate man's forehead.

Mr Keith was the father of Joseph H. Keith of Quincy, former saloon keeper who conducts a soft drink parlor at 300 Hampshire. The father resided with another son on a farm seven miles south of Edina. The son and his family were away from home yesterday and the father was alone in the house. When the family returned, about 6 p.m., the body of the elder Keith was found and the circumstances as far as known, when investigated by a coroner's jury last evening, resulted in a verdict of suicide in accordance with the above conclusions.

Funeral services were held today at Novelty and J. H. Keith of Quincy was in attendance, with many other relatives and friends of the dead man.

There were rumors that $700 had disappeared from the home, with the dead man's watch, and these led to suggestions of murder and robbery, rather than suicide, but the coroner's jury could find no evidence to this effect. It was stated in the rumor that there was $1000 in the house and that only $300 of this sum was found after the body had been discovered.
