Funeral services, under the directions of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday November 20, 2009 in the Funeral Home Chapel with Father Andrew Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in the Bangs City Cemetery in Bangs, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, November 19, 2009 at the Funeral Home.
"Bill" was born August 9, 1920, to Elijah E. and Elizabeth Linnie (Flippin) Davis in Gustine, Texas. While attending school he became part of the Civilian Conservation Corp and began working on various projects. He joined the United States Army and served during World War II.
He met Wilma Woods and on April 17, 1946 they were married in Brownwood. Early in 1946, they moved to San Antonio to live and he began work as a police officer. He continued working as a police officer until sometime around 1950. He had lived in the Comanche area since 1982, and worked in real estate, greatly enjoying all types of sales in land and property.
His religious membership was with the Episcopal church, and he was a member of the Lions, Masonic Lodge, and Disabled American Veterans. "Bill" volunteered with Santa's Helpers, Meals on Wheels, and all Disabled American Vet activities.
He is survived by sons, James Davis of Comanche, Jamey Davis and wife Donna of Granbury, and Joe Davis of Comanche; daughter, Lisa Davis and husband Nathan of Leesville, Louisiana; grandchildren, Jessica and Karen Davis, and Ryan, Shay-Leigh, and Marlee Whitehurst; special sister-in-law, Robbie Davis from San Angelo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Wilma; daughter, Dianna Davis; son, William L. Davis, Jr.; parents, Elijah E. and Elizabeth Linnie Davis; brothers, James and George; and sisters, Edna and Launa.
