From an old scrapbook donated by Zoe Hazlewood; an unnamed and undated newspaper clipping with 15 pictures: '19 Former Students Killed in Service of Their Nation. Nineteen former students of Paris Junior College have lost their lives while in service of their country, 18 of them since the United States declared war against the Axis powers and one, Charles Mac Cox, before the Pacific sneak attack by Japan. Cox Army Air Field, near Paris, is named for Lt. Charles Mac Cox, son of Mrs. Herbert Turner. No pictures are available for Rufus Garrett, William Arre Hildahl and Joe Shaeffer.'
THE PARIS NEWS, 21 Feb 1942. 'Funeral services for Lieut. Gordon Cross McArthur, 24, former Dallasite who was killed Saturday in an airplane crash at Westover Air Base, Chicopee, Mass, will be held in Paris at 4 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Paris. Lieutenant McArthur was the brother of Miss Mary McArthur, Gaston Avenue, with whom he lived while in Dallas. He was employed in the office of the Fort Motor Company here until enlisting in the Army Air Corps about a year ago. He received his training at Moffitt and Stockton Fields Calif., and was commissioned last December. He was a native of Paris and educated in that city. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. McArthur, Paris; a sister in Dallas, and three brothers, John McArthur, Roosevelt, Utah; James McArthur, Paris, and Sgt. Pete McArthur, US Army.'

Buried next to Bertha Cross McArthur. Tombstone is inscribed, 'Lieut. 13th Bombardment 40th Squadron US Army Air Corps.'
