As the result of a fall sustained six weeks ago when she fracture one of her knee caps, Mrs. Sarah E. Paul, aged 81, a well-known pioneer resident of the Laurel neighborhood, died at 12 :25 this morning at the home of her son, George E. Paul, one and three-quarters miles northwest of Laurel.
Mrs. Paul suffered a light stroke of paralysis last fall, and her trouble in walking was largely responsible for the fall. She has been failing gradually since the accident.
Mrs. Paul was born Sarah E. Runkle in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, Jan. 27, 1835. She became the wife of David Paul in her native county March 4, 1855, and one year later went to Ogle County, Illinois, near Brookville, to live. It was from Brookville that Mr. and Mrs. Paul came to this county overland in 1855, stopping here at the Peter Kreutzer home while on their way to Laurel. The family settled on the Paul homestead, one mile north of Laurel, which Mrs. Paul owned at the time of her death, and occupied until her accident.
Mr. Paul died at Laurel, February 11, 1899.
Mrs. Paul was the mother of ten children, nine of whom are living. They are James I., George Edward, Charles C., and David H. Paul, all of Laurel; Mrs. W.L. Beye, of Haverhill; Fred G. and John R. Paul, of this city; Mrs. J.C. Mansmith, of Hartley; and Mrs. C.F. Martin, of Worthington, Minn. A son, William H. Paul died April 1, 1915, in this city.
Mrs. Paul also has one brother living, in the person of Richard Runkle [FAG memorial #184661197], of Monticello, Indiana.
Mrs. Paul was a member of the Methodist Church, and had belonged to the Church at Laurel ever since it was organized.
Funeral services will be held from the G.E. Paul home Saturday afternoon at 1:30. Burial will follow in Maple Grove cemetery [apparently an error].
