Melissa Allison Butler, 27, of West New York, NJ and formerly of Hartford, died Saturday (May 3, 2003) at her home.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Clive W. Butler of Waterbury and Lena E. (Fisher) Butler of Hartford, she grew up in Hartford and was a graduate of St. Justin's Elementary School and Hartford Public High School.

After graduation, she moved to Philadelphia and became a student at Temple University, earning a Bachelors of Science in Biology in 1998. In her free time, Melissa loved reading and enjoyed listening to jazz. She was a parishioner of St. Justin Church, Hartford. Most of all, she will be remembered as a generous, caring person who had a way of bringing people together, and an infectious smile.

Besides her parents, she leaves to mourn her passing her five loving and protective brothers, Melbourne Bernard of Texas, Marcel Bernard and his wife Onelia of Oakdale, LA, William, Anton and Julian Butler all of Hartford; her maternal grandmother Hyacinth Fisher and great grandmother, Lillian Rose; special niece and nephews, Dorian, Ariel and Spencer; a special friend, Damon Bacote; her best friends, Navine Stewart, Sarah Bovell George, Karen Smith, Jessica Castro and Ingrid; she also leaves to mourn her passing her godmothers Ruth Bradshaw and Beryl Weaver and her godbrother Brian Bradshaw; her godsister Lauren Weaver and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Evadney Butler; and her maternal grandfather Clifford Fisher.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Justin Roman Catholic Church, 230 Blue Hills Avenue, Hartford.
Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
Her family will receive friends on Friday, May 9, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, and prior to the Mass on Saturday from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the Church.
