Betty (Clotere) Hyman, 59, has gone to be with her maker.

Daughter of Samuel and Eleanore (Twomey Clotere) Hyman, she was born in Burbank, Calif. She lived in North Hollywood before moving to Santa Clara, Calif. Betty had lived in Corvallis for the past 15 years.

She exceeded all expectations in what she accomplished, especially her ability to read and her comprehension. Her mother's patience and determination were given total credit for these successes. Betty defied old medical standards by almost reaching her 60th birthday with both Down syndrome and the fast onset of Alzheimer's.

Betty worked at Cornerstone and Packaging Plus, participated in Special Olympics and the annual DD Corvallis Christmas Pageant, and especially enjoyed her community's special excursions. Betty loved family gatherings, listening to and watching sports, reading the TV Guide, and every restaurant she passed was her instant "favorite place to eat."

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Rae Dean Clotere; nephew Billy Clotere of Eugene; nieces Chrissie Clotere Bertsch of Salem and Carrie Clotere of Mammoth Lakes, Calif.; and many other loving family members as well as the many supportive members of the Corvallis DD community.

A recitation of the rosary will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home, and a funeral Mass will be at noon Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany. Interment will be in the Mission City Memorial Park in Santa Clara, Calif., at a later date.
