Barbara Herndon Dixon, 64, of Charlottesville, was surrounded by her family when she passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

She was the wife of Montague U. Dixon II.

She was born on March 2, 1946, in Fluvanna County, the daughter of the late Bernard and Lucille Herndon.

Mrs. Dixon was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Monica Huband and her husband, James, Mary Levy and her husband, Steve; and three sons, Monty Dixon and his wife, Katherine, Michael Dixon, and Mark Dixon. Mrs. Dixon is also survived by eight beautiful grandchildren.

The family received friends Friday, July 16, 2010, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville. Her brother-in-law, the Reverend Randy Blankenship, officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont at 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300 Charlottesville, VA 22911.

Her family also thanks her loving friends Lucy Durham and Francis Proffitt for their continued support during the last few years of her life.
