Enlisted in Company G, Michigan 5th Cavalry Regiment on 10 Mar 1865. Mustered out on 01 Sep 1865. Transferred to Company K, Michigan 1st Cavalry Regiment on 01 Sep 1865.
Mustered out on 09 Oct 1865 at Detroit, MI.

William H. Wells was born about 1823 in New York.
It is not known at this time the names of his parents.
Nor when he came to Michigan.

It is known he served in the Civil War as stated above.

On 6-22-1854 in Traverse City, Michigan married Jane Phelps Havens Rowland. She was 32 and William 30.

She had been married twice before and brought 4 children to this marriage.

Jane died 11-28-1870 at the age of 47 years 10 months. She is buried in the Howard Cemetery in Ingham Twp. Ingham Co. MI.

Research shows William died 7-1887 due to an explosion of a cannon at a celebration in Wheeler, Gratiot Co. MI.
He was approximately 64 years old. He is buried with Jane in Howard Cemetery, Ingham Township, Ingham Co. MI.
Their son, Benjamin, is also buried there as is Jane's daughter Clara Havens Haynes.

Research will continue on this family.
