Johnny J. Womack

Johnny J. Womack, 82, of Riceville, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Life Care Center of Athens.

A native of Meigs County, and a resident of McMinn County for most of his life, he was a son of the late D.E. "Doc" and Mandy Goforth Womack, and was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ruth Crisp Womack, on Dec. 27, 2009; four brothers, Jeff Womack, Dude Womack, Harvey Womack and William Womack; and two sisters, Pearl Palmer and Hazel Womack. He was a member of the Church of God, a retired farmer and was retired from the Bendix Corporation in Cleveland.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Mary Womack of Englewood, and Joel David and Teresa Womack of Athens; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol Jane Thomas of Smyrna, and Patsy Ruth and Jimmy Wooten of Cleveland; six grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy and Jimmy Jernigan of Murfreesboro, Chris and Sandra Thomas of Smyrna, Mitzie and Scottie Wiggins of Englewood, Holly and Michael Harris of Cleveland, Dana and Jeff Pack of Riceville, and Theresa and Jared Sacco of Cleveland; nine great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Reba and Jay Moses of Decatur; two brothers and one sister-in-law, James Lewis "Cotton" Womack and Jimmy and Martha Womack, all of Athens; one sister-in-law, Hazel Womack of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie McDowell and the Rev. Doyle Prince officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Beta Cemetery in Meigs County.

Pallbearers will be Dean Womack, Scotty Wiggins, Chris Thomas, Mike Harris, Jared Sacco and George Womack.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
