He served with B Company, 307th Airborne Engineers Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division when he jumped into Normandy on D-Day. Subsequently he was captured by the Germans and taken to Grasseth, Czechoslovakia (now: Jehlièná, Czech Republic), where he died as a prisoner of war.
He was buried temporarily in St. Avold, France.
