Son of Mahlon Chamerlain and Jane (Vance) Holden, who married 7 Nov 1822 in Licking Township, Licking Co., Ohio.

About 1847 a large group of the Holden clan moved to Crawford Co., IL. Led by Wilson & Sally (Bonham) Holden, John English & Mariah (Holden) Vance, and John Warford Bonham (brother of Sally, they took along the younger nephews John Alexander Holden, Samuel Wilson Holden, and their sister Mary Holden. Only Mahlon and his daughter Ann wee left in Licking Co., Ohio. The clan settled in Hutsonville, Crawford Co., Illinois.

Buried 5 January 1899.
