Cecil William "Chuck" Ailey, was born July 21, 1920, at Depew, to Leonard Wilson and Minnie Mae Rigney Ailey. He died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Shawn Manor Nursing Home in Ponca City. He was 89.


Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Ponca City Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bigger officiating. Burial will follow in Tonkawa I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Anderson Funeral Home of Tonkawa.


Cecil grew up and attended school in Shamrock, later moving to Tonkawa. On Oct. 7, 1939, he married Sylvia Lorene Cloud in Bristow. The family eventually settled in Tonkawa, where Cecil farmed and worked at the Blackwell Zinc Smelter. He was a Baptist by faith and enjoyed fishing, especially for crappie, softball, hunting, gardening and horseshoes. He was a hard worker and provided well for the family.


Cecil is survived by his five sons, Cecil Jr. and his wife Karen of Tonkawa, Wilson and his wife Bernice of Coweta, Larry of Ponca City, Jerry and his wife Jean of Dodge City, Kan., and David of Blackwell. He also is survived by three daughters, Arlene Brown of Ponca City, Cathy Street of Ponca City and LaDonna DeNoya and her husband Jay of Ponca City; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.


Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Russel Ailey; six brothers; and four sisters.
