Dea. Samuel Baker, eldest surviving s. of Dea. John Baker and Anna Annable, b. of record Sept. 7, 1706 at Barnstable, Mass. He d. Dec. 9, 1791 at Windham, Conn., Æ 86.

On May 30, 1732 at Barnstable, Mass. (by Rev. Jonathan Russel), Samuel m. Prudence Jenkins, dau. of Joseph Jenkins and Lydia Howland (latter the granddaughter of John Howland of the 1620 Mayflower), b. at Barnstable, MA AFTER July 26, 1710 (see her memorial for details). She d. July 26, 1793 at Windham, Conn. They had the following children, the oldest five b. at Barnstable, Mass., the rest at Windham, Conn.:

• i. Martha Baker, b. Jan. 24, 1732/3 at Barnstable, Mass.; m. Jan. 2, 1757 at Windham, Conn., Nathaniel Bingham, s. of Isaac Bingham and Sarah Backus, b. May 12, 1733 of record at Windham, Conn.

• ii. Anna Baker, b. May 12, 1735; d. young.

• iii. Bethiah Baker, b. June 12, 1737; m. Sept. 23, 1756 at Windham, Conn., Adonijah Kingsley, s. of Sgt. Josiah Kingsley and Dorothy Bingham, b. Apr. 3, 1734 of record at Windham, Conn.

• iv. Dea. Samuel Baker, Jr., b. Sept. 30, 1740, d. May 12, 1812 at Windham, Conn.; m. 1) Dec. 8, 1763 at the Scotland Cong. Ch., then in Windham, Lydia Smith, dau. of Josiah Smith and his 1st wife Amy Cottrell, b. Jan. 18, 1741/2 at Windham. She d. Sept. 24, 1771 at Windham. Samuel m. 2) Sept. 27, 1774 at Windham, Chloe Silsby, dau. of John Silsby and Huldah Carpenter, b. Aug. 11, 1748 of record at Windham where she d. Sept. 29, 1788. Samuel m. 3) Dec. 23, 1794 at Windham, Sarah Farnham. Four children by his 1st wife and six by his 2nd wife.

• v. Marcy Baker, b. May 30, 1743, never married and d. Mar. 17, 1766 at Windham, Conn.

• vi. Anna Baker, b. May 20, 1746 at Windham, Conn., never married and d. June 22, 1819 at Windham, Conn.

• vii. Dr. Joseph Baker, b. Dec. 17, 1748, d. May 16, 1804 at Brooklyn, Conn.; m. Jan. 10, 1779 at the Scotland Cong. Ch., then in Windham, Lucy Devotion, dau. of Rev. Ebenezer Devotion, Jr. and Martha Lothrop, b. Nov. 12, 1754 of record at Windham, Conn. She d. Apr. 13, 1842 at Windham, Conn. Eight children of the family.

• viii. Benjamin Baker, b. June 15, 1751; m. Nov. 25, 1773 at Windham, Lucy Bottom.

• ix. Prudence Baker, b. Jan. 4, 1755, d. Oct. 5, 1845 at Windham; m. Nov. 2, 1780 at the Scotland Cong. Ch., then in Windham, Abner Webb, s. of Napthali Webb and Mary Mudge, b. June 26, 1759 at Windham where he d. June 26, 1848. Nine children of the family.

The modern gravestone shown containing the name of Samuel's father John, Samuel and his son Samuel, and the elder Samuel's brother John and his namesake son John, is located in the "old" Scotland Cemetery.

On the day Samuel died he was 85 years old, and Ætatis suæ (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 86.
